What is a Neck Lift?

The neck lift is a plastic surgery procedure that tightens and defines the neck by removing sagging skin or fat from underneath the chin. The neck is one of the first places that people experience signs of aging, and their neck may not share the same youthful appearance as their face. Through small incisions, Dr. Roussel can tighten the underlying tissues of the neck and excise sagging skin for a more distinct, youthful jawline.

Neck Lift Candidates

People who can benefit most from the neck lift are those who are bothered by a “turkey neck,” or sagging skin and fat underneath the chin. The neck lift is also a great option for wrinkles or loose muscles in the neck that cause it to look loose or aged. Many patients practice good anti-aging techniques on their face but neglect their neck, leading to a mismatch. To be considered a good candidate for a neck lift, you should be in overall good health and able to take time away from daily activities to recover. During a consultation, Dr. Roussel will examine your neck and discuss your goals to help you select the best treatment option for your cosmetic needs.

The neck lift can be performed on its own, but it’s commonly combined with the facelift to ensure both the face and neck look equally rejuvenated. Dr. Roussel will give you a professional recommendation on whether a neck lift alone can achieve your desired look or whether you should combine it with another procedure.

Neck Lift Procedure Steps

A neck lift can be performed as an outpatient procedure. Dr. Roussel will help you select the appropriate anesthetic during your consultation. To begin your procedure, Dr. Roussel will create small incisions along the jawline near the ears or underneath the chin. This allows her to tighten and lift the tissues of the neck into a more upright position, then remove any excess fat or skin. Once complete, the incisions are closed and made ready for your recovery.

Neck Lift Results and Recovery

Recovery from your neck lift can take 1-2 weeks. Until cleared by Dr. Roussel, you should avoid strenuous activity and instead focus on resting. Dr. Roussel will give you detailed aftercare instructions on following up, watching for complications, and caring for your incisions. Most importantly, you should keep your head elevated and avoid turning your head or wearing clothing that is tight around the neck.

After two weeks, you’ll begin to see your results emerge, with a more defined and contoured neck and jawline. You may still have visible scarring and it can take several months for it to fade completely. With an anti-aging regimen developed by Dr. Roussel, a neck lift can last for the long term.
